What this site is for

This is patient education about dry skin, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is a concern guide rather than a procedure page: it answers why the skin is dry, whether it needs treatment at all, and which of several paths applies. The devices and injectables that occasionally support a routine are described on the dermatology hub and on Dr. Jia’s own site, and repeating them here would help nobody.

The distinction the site is built on

Dry skin is three different situations wearing one name. In the commonest, the outer layer has lost the lipids that hold water in, and the routine is the treatment. In the next, a skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis produces dryness as one of its features, and the diagnosis has to come before the products. In the smallest group, a systemic cause or a medicine is showing on the skin. The three look alike in a mirror and answer to plans that barely overlap, which is why a routine adjusted before the kind is named tends to be adjusted repeatedly and to no effect.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise that any product will clear the skin. It does not present a moisturiser as a treatment for a skin disease or for a systemic cause, or a device as a substitute for a routine where a routine is the honest answer. It does not describe procedure technique, because that belongs to the pages that cover it. And it does not treat dryness that has a pattern, or that arrives with weight change, tiredness or thirst, as a shopping problem at any point.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether the change on your own skin is a barrier problem, a skin disease or something systemic. That requires someone to look at the whole skin rather than at the part that is bothering you, to ask what has changed in the last year, and to decide whether a test is worth ordering — judgements that take minutes in person and cannot be made from a photograph or a paragraph. Use this site to arrive at an assessment with better questions, and treat any answer you receive here as general information rather than as advice about you.
